Trillian Astra

Hey, Trillian Astra is now available for beta downloads. So far, I am liking it. The graphics are much cooler than the older version. You can find more information here.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving to all and safe travels to those traveling.

SlickRun

Folks, today, I was introduced to SlickRun application by Bayden Systems. SlickRun is a free command line utility for Windows. This application runs in both Windows XP and Vista (yes, I have SlickRun installed and working on two machines with two different operating systems). It allows you to create command aliases (in SlickRun, these are known as MagicWord) that you can manage. For example, you may create a command alias call msword. Open the command line and type in msword and Word will be executed. You can also type in a URL and it will open up your favorite browser and go to that URL.

Setting up a MagicWord is easy. Right click on the command line box and select Setup. Next, click on New MagicWord button. Type in a new magic word in the MagicWord box. There are a couple of ways to associate the MagicWord with the appropriate application. The easiest way is to open that application and using the dropper tool, drag the dropper tool into the application and drop it. Then click the ok button (it is actually a button with a green check mark on it).

Viola, you may now run your application from there. You may "hide" the SlickRun application when you don't need to use it. And when you need it, you may use their shortcut (which is Window-Q) or you can set up your own shortcut.

My impression so far, this is a really cool and useful tool. It does not seem to be causing any performance issue on my machines.

I meant to post this a while back but I obviously forgot. Mr. Japikse has posted the source code from his presentation at NotAtPDC here.
